Does Online Therapy Work

Does online therapy work? What are it’s benefits? This is a question that you may have asked and it’s understandable. While Online Therapy is still relatively new, it is becoming popular very fast. We commend you for asking these questions as your health is very important. Rest assured however, studies show that not only does Online Counseling work but it has more benefits than traditional face to face counseling.

What Does The Research Say?

What Does The Research Say?

With over 120,000 researchers, the American Psychological Association or APA is a leading organization for the field of Psychology. It only makes sense that they would research this question While the Covid-19 pandemic brought many discomfort, the APA accredits it for the increase of online therapy services. In this article, Dr. Dhara Meghani stated it allowed mental health providers to reach more patients and “address stigma for patients seeking psychological services for the first time”. Many people are afraid of entering a therapist office out of fear of being seen or being uncomfortable. Online therapy has lessened that fear.

Researchers reviewed the results of Online Therapy with various mental health disorders. The US Department of Affairs found it effective in treating PTSD with veterans. Systematic reviews also found it effective in treating substance use, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, and problems in children.

A Guide to Proper Counseling Cost

How much should therapy cost

You’ve decided that you are ready to start working on yourself. Bravo to you! The next question you may ask yourself is how much should therapy cost? You’re not wrong for asking. In fact, this is a very important question. Maybe even more important than you realize. Don’t get me wrong, you should primarily be searching for a therapist that best meets your needs. Although, knowing how much should therapy cost can help lead you to the right counselor.

                                                                                     Why is Cost Important?

Perspective can allow you to see this in two different ways. Both ways are correct. Cost can be important because of what you can afford. Cost can also be important because it can reveal value.  You’ve decided to receive therapy because you know it’s importance. Knowing it’s importance, you know it is crucial that you commit to the process. Cost plays an important role in how much you commit.

As with physical health, we have found that clients commit to more expensive therapy sessions like gym members do more expensive gyms. If a therapy session is more expensive, you are more likely to fully involve yourself in the process and get the most out of it. Like cheap gym memberships, many find themselves not as motivated to be there or skipping sessions entirely. Of course, your financial situation will determine what is the limit for you. What may motivate you, may not be enough for others. A good rule of thumb is to seek out an amount that is high enough for you to place large importance on, but low enough to where it is not causing you financial stress. That would be counterproductive.

Value, unlike cost is determined by the buyer not seller. While a therapist sets their cost, you will determine their value. You will look at a therapist and decide whether they are of high or low value. You will look at their website, read about their approach, and observe their cost. If their cost is much lower than other therapist, you will assume they are of lesser value. If their price is much higher, you will assume they are of higher value. This is not always the case but you should ask yourself, why would a good therapist work for less than they deserve? When someone is of high value, their cost will typically reflect that. Questions you also should ask yourself are will a therapist being forced to carry a larger case load due to cheaper fees be able to focus on me? Is this therapist being overworked and burnt out? Does this therapist see value in themselves and if not, why should I?

How Much Should Therapy Cost?

Grow Again Counseling provides Online Therapy for the State Florida. Florida is an interesting state as it holds some of the lowest and highest rates in the country. On average, the median rate for therapy is around $90. This is the average rate for the average therapist but what about a therapist of higher value. Higher valued therapist start around $120 and have even been seen to go up to $250 per session.

We believe in high value therapy as it provides the best service for clients and encourages therapists to be more efficient. We also believe that most in the State of Florida would struggle financially to pay $250 per session. For this reason, we sought out a balance and found what we believe to be the perfect number to encourage healthy and commitment full therapy.

For induvial sessions, we charge a rate of $130 per session. This amount encourages the client to commit to the process and assists the therapist from burning out.

How To Get Self Motivated

How To Get Self Motivated

5 Simple Steps on How To Get Self Motivated

Whether you are looking to create change or make progress, how to get self motivated is a great question you should ask yourself. I commend you for looking into this. Many people have the false belief that the way they are now, is how they will always be. This isn’t true. From my personal experience and the experience of many clients I have worked with, becoming motivated is very possible. Before we discuss self motivation however, I think it is important to understand motivation in general.

Motivation can be defined as something that encourages or nudges you into the right direction. Let’s face it, all of us could use a good nudge everyone once in awhile. Some of us, like myself, could use a strong push. Motivation is like pushing a ball down a hill. Your habits are that ball as it begins to develop speed, momentum, and roll on it’s own. Good habits are what we are looking to achieve for you but first let’s find you that push.

Self motivation, in my opinion, is far greater than motivation in general. Which is why this article is on how to get self motivated and not how to get motivated. Motivation requires something outside of yourself or external to get you going. This is good but you may not always have that thing with you. If music is motivating for you, you may find yourself in a setting where music isn’t appropriate. If motivational videos are your thing, you may find yourself without internet access. The beauty about self motivation however, is that you always take you with you wherever you go. Self motivation also builds discipline. Discipline is a great topic that we’ll discuss in another article and video as well. Discipline in summary however, does not require motivation or inspiration to accomplish a task. Discipline does what is needed to be done because it is needed to be done. The habits you build through self motivation will transfer well into discipline.

                                                                                     *Bonus Tip*

One good way to build discipline is to make your bed daily. Maybe you hated this chore growing up. Maybe you still do. It turns out however, this chore wasn’t just to impress guest or teach us tidiness. Making your bed despite whether you are feeling tired, running late, or laying back down shortly encourages you to complete a task without motivation. This in return teaches us discipline.

Before we begin, it’s important to remember that self motivation doesn’t have to originate with you. Motivation can be learned from somewhere else and then become a part of you. I call this adopting motivation. A great example of this is told by motivation speaker David Goggins. David Goggins is a Navy Seal, Ultra Marathoner, Guinness Record Pull Up holder, and much much more. He wasn’t always the man we see today however, and he openly shares of this. One motivational tool he used when he was struggling was the famous Rocky film. David would think of Rocky versus Apollo Creed in round 14. In this round Rocky is getting beat badly and everyone is encouraging him to give up. Rocky holds on however and becomes the first boxer to go the distance with Apollo. David would remember this scene and think of it during difficult and quit worthy instances in his life. He adopted this external motivator and made it his own.

Alright, let’s get into how to get self motivated. Let’s get into the 5 simple steps to get motivated.

How to get self motivated

5 Simple Steps To Get Self Motivated

1. Have A Goal

Having a goal is the foundation of your self motivation. Have a clear understanding of what it is you want to accomplish and what accomplishing it should look like. If your goal is to gain or lose weight, know what your eating habits and daily routine should look like. Be specific!

2. Envision Yourself Accomplishing Your Goal

What does accomplishing your goal look like? How does it feel? Think about what it will be like after you accomplish your goal and then compare that to how it will be if you don’t. Whenever you are feeling unmotivated to work on your goal, remind yourself of this.

3. Remove Distractions

Remove any people, places, or things that can get in the way of you accomplishing your goal. Remember we are working on self motivation because we already have a problem accomplishing our goals. We don’t need the help of anything else slowing us down or holding us back.

4. Talk To Yourself

Society has done a horrible job creating the stigma that talking to yourself means that you are mentally unstable. Studies actually show that talking to yourself is a sign of high intelligence. I believe this is because talking to yourself places you outside of your behaviors and gives you the opportunity to motivate yourself to change. Start by telling yourself positive things in the mirror, like I am smart or attractive. Then encourage yourself to keep going, ask yourself what you learned from a mistake, and provide yourself with answers.

5. Enjoy The Process More Than The End Result

This is big. Many of us put so much emphasis on the end result that we forget to enjoy the process of getting there. If you enjoy the process of accomplishing tasks, then the end result will occur naturally. If you only enjoy the end, then you may struggle staying motivated getting there. Find pleasure in knowing that you working on your goals. Find pleasure in knowing that you are doing what others are unwilling to do. Find pleasure in knowing that you are doing what you were once unwilling to do.

Getting Back Up After Relapse

Getting Back Up After Relapse or Mistakes

While I worked at a rehab for drug and alcohol addiction, I had a saying that I loved to use to encourage others after they’ve relapsed. Often times, after relapse, I noticed that people would become depressed and lose their motivation or momentum that they spent so much time developing for their recovery. It’s natural for us to be disappointed with ourselves after making a mistake but we do not want this disappointment to develop into a long lasting attitude. It is important that we adjust our perspective quickly. When I noticed this happening, I would tell that person “try to not be so hard on yourself. Nobody is perfect and everybody falls down, but not everyone gets back up”. When I said this, I made sure to really look into their eyes and place importance on the latter part of that saying, “not everyone gets back up”. This encourages your listener to see the opportunity they have to be one of the few that decide they will be getting back up. It’s important that we realize that everyone makes mistakes and that we are no exception. Knowing this, we should not only account for our future mistakes but also our perception on how we’ll recover and grow from it. I’m big on metaphors and illustrations. So while I love hearing people tell other’s to get back on the horse, I am heartbroken by their failure to follow up with great suggestions on how to do this. Here are a couple tips I’ve created for you on getting back on that figurative horse.

TIPS TO GETTING BACK ON THE HORSE

Look at your path for potential pitfalls

Keep an eye out on where you are heading. Are the same things that tripped you up before also ahead? How can we avoid them?
Change horses
Maybe you are heading in the right direction but your method of getting there isn’t the best. There is no shame in changing horses or techniques to one that is better suited for your journey.

Water your horse
You may have a great perspective and method to accomplish your goal but if you are not staying hydrated or well rested, you run the risk of tiring out and giving up. Make sure you are taking care of your physical, emotional, and mental health.
